Punjab excise dept looks for software solutions to enhance efficiency

The government of Punjab is seeking to implement software-based technological solutions to streamline the process of collecting excise revenue and address any loopholes within the system.

A delegation from the Punjab government, led by finance and excise and taxation minister Harpal Singh Cheema, visited Kerala to examine the supply chain management through ERP software and the point of sale (PoS) system used by the Kerala excise department.

The delegation, which included financial commissioner, taxation, Vikas Partap and excise commissioner Varun Roojam, aimed to gain insights into technological interventions that are crucial for preventing revenue leaks and increasing excise revenue.

Cheema explained that the enterprise resource planning (ERP) software would offer the Punjab excise department a centralized system that provides an integrated and real-time view of its core processes, which can be easily accessed.

Cheema emphasized that the software would enhance transparency in governance. The Kerala government officials provided a comprehensive presentation on the technological solutions they have implemented in their excise department during the visit. Additionally, the minister had a meeting with his Kerala counterpart M B Rajesh.

Cheema reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to boosting its own revenue in order to propel the state towards growth and prosperity. He mentioned that the excise department would strive to adopt these software solutions to further enhance its efficiency and effectiveness.
